Stand Up Paddle Boarding :)

Tonight I went to Hingham Harbor and tried out paddle boarding :0
My friend's Shannon and Casey saw an ad a few months ago for a stand up paddle lesson. I had NO IDEA what it was!

John Furey and Peter Sleight run Maui Standup Paddle Boa
rding all around Boston :)
John is an encyclopedia when it comes to Biomechanics and Exercises Physiology, as well as a jack of all trades. Whether he is running the Fitcorp Boston Marathon Training program or taking athletes through agility ladder drills in his back yard, he's your go-to guy.

Heather Regan and I met up with John a little before 7pm. Being typical women, we were nervous about what to wear and thinking that we might not be so good at this whole standing up on a surf board thing :0

Boy were we wrong.

I AM ADDICTED.

I LOVED IT.

First of all you are standing up. You aren't sitting on your butt, like in a kayak. You have much better views of the horizon as well as core engagement ;) You have to balance and in order to paddle and you work the HELL out of your obliques. Heather and I wore rash guards for OBVIOUS reasons and they were sweat soaked within 15 minutes ;) John even took us through how to stand up as if we were surfing and catching a wave!

You can go through interval sprints on the paddle board just like if you were running, except there is no impact on your joints and you are USING YOUR CORE! Sounds like something I could get used to ;)

I found this website! www.standuppaddlesurf.net
